About Us
We are a small high-tech business comprising two
affiliated companies, Amethyst Research Inc. based in
the US and Amethyst Research Ltd in the UK.
We design, develop, and deliver new, improved, and/or
next-generation infrared detectors and
emitters for the government and
commercial markets.
From Materials to Devices
Amethyst Research Inc, was formed in 2004. Our initial mission was developing defect passivation technologies for improved operability of II-VI and III-V semiconductor FPAs sensors and detectors for the US Department of Defense.Since then, we have aggressively built up our know-how and expertise to include:
- III-V compound semiconductor epitaxial growth,
- infrared detector design and fabrication, and
- materials analysis and device testing

Thanks to our Materials Growth and Device Prototyping Platform, we
can provide you with a fully customized infrared solution,
ranging from materials growth and device design to
small volume manufacturing.
Our product-oriented solutions pick up where commercial products
leave off, with unique sets of capabilities,
ultra-high performance, and cost-effectiveness.
A Collaboration Mindset
We have been growing a network of partners and customers for the
past 20 years. This group now includes many leading
universities, national laboratories, government agencies
and key industrial players—from materials companies to
systems integrators / prime contractors. Integral to our mission
is to offer you a complete domestic supply chain, whether
you’re based in the UK or the US.
